A-Kon® is the longest running anime convention in North America and is one of the largest and highest ranked anime conventions in the United States. Founded in 1990, A-Kon® is home to over 36,000 fans and active community enthusiasts of anime, gaming, cosplay, music, fashion, manga, art, film, media and Japanese culture.

A-Kon 2019 was a universal failure under new ownership. 1.) First issue was the moving of venue and dates just 5 months before the con. This in itself screwed over all pre-sale con attendees. I was lucky enough to be able to change my hotel reservations and vacation time to accommodate. I can only assume this also affected vendors and guest as well. The new venue the Fair Grounds in Dallas were not set up to accommodate an anime convention. 2.) Thursday admission was a waste of time in long lines with absolutely nothing set up for attendees. 3) VIP pass literally had no benefit. 3) The special gift for those that did not demand refunds was a left over shirt from previous year. 4) Moving from hall to hall was a very hot and sweaty Texas summer adventure. 5) The panel hall was only seperated by curtains so the noise level made panels a waste. 6) Almost no vendors in a room a 1/3 of the normal vendor all size. The normal couple of rows for the Artist Aisle was almost the entire vendor room. 7) Musical guest were hosted off site and not on the Fair Grounds. 8) In close I cut my con 2 days short instead of wasting time and drove the 5 hours home. At least the hotel only made me pay for the days I was there.
