Amarillo Public Library’s AMA-CON is a Pop Culture Convention celebrating anime, comics, gaming, sci-fi, steampunk, and everything else that is geeky and awesome!
At AMA-CON you’ll find Cosplay contests, gaming tournaments, panels and workshops from award-winning authors and artists, a pop culture art exhibit, vendors offering everything from comic books to jewelry, and interactive, content-rich activities for geeks of all ages.
Since AMA-CON began in 2012, the con has more than quadrupled in size and earned a reputation as one of the most positive con experiences for artists, vendors, and participants.
AMA-CON is hosted by Friends of the Amarillo Public Library and raises funds to help the Friends support Library projects including the AMARILLO READS Community Reading Program, Summer Reading Club, ESL and Citizenship Classes, READ to SUCCEED Adult Reading Skills Tutoring, Story Times to build early literacy, Genealogy classes, and many other fun and educational projects for kids, teens and adults.

I have been collecting comics for 35 years. I am a big time nerd, have been to all of the comic cons, except two, due to scheduling conflicts. Lately comic con has gotten away from what it is based on "Comics" instead it is based on "Cash". Expensive comic arts and merchandise consume the whole floor, hardly the experience it was based on anymore. We need more involvements with the attendees, more cosplay competition, more artwork presentation, more workshops from artists, writers, and people in the industries. And lets get speakers from the comic industries, not some celebrities talking about other things besides comics. Lets go back to COMICS and stay away from CASH!!!!
